About The Bookery Place

When I was first contemplating the idea of writing a blog, I spent a bit of time brain-storming with my daughter. She encouraged me to quit talking about it and actually start writing. I love that daughter of mine.

I think the easiest part of this process was knowing what I wanted to write about, which was, of course, books!  Yet I didn’t want to write book reviews of books about to be or recently published.  Not only does there seem to be plenty of blogs that cover that better than I ever could, but it really isn’t how I read or how I choose what I’m going to read.

I really wanted to write about the books that I am actually reading; which may come from my bookshelves, the library, as a gift, a recommendation, purchased new or from a thrift store.  I often re-read books.  In fact, that is how I determine if a book I have acquired actually finds a place on my bookshelf: “Is it good enough to read again?”

I’d like to write reviews of books that I have read no matter how long ago or recently they have been published. I would want to not only write typical reviews, but perhaps also a history of my relationship with that particular book.

Because, you see, books and the stories and worlds within in them are part of my everyday life, they have helped to form who I have become and who I am becoming.  I want to share that journey with other readers and I hope hear from you about your book journeys through life as well.

With that thought, I also wanted to write more specifically about my reading and book journeys as I was growing up, going to college, getting married, raising a family, homeschooling, empty nesting, a pandemic and a swiftly changing world (or so it seems to me).

Please join me in the adventure!

  1. Yay – this really represents you! I have to add, that one of Cheri’s favorite places to be when between books is standing in front of a bookshelf… Pondering which book to dive into next!

  2. Hi Cheri👋 I still have the books you gifted my boys years ago! You introduced me and them to the classic Make Way for Ducklings. I love the rhythm of the story and my mama memories I have at bedtime with my sweet babies.

    1. Hi Sacha! Thanks for checking out the blog! I’m glad that you have such sweet memories of reading to your boys! I feel privileged to have been a small part of that!

  3. Good for you, Cheri! Since we’ve shared books in the past, I’ll be looking forward to your recommendations! I’m like you in that I won’t buy a book unless it’s worthy of reading again (such as “Where the Crawdads Sing” or “The Winter Garden”, and, of course,The LOTR series and “Gone With the Wind”)

  4. Hello Cheri! We have so many books you have given my children over the years. This year for Christmas, I was able to read some of those books to my two year old grand daughter. I had so much fun and wonderful memories. After every book, she would say more!
